Create the right dishes for your child’s nutrition

4 December 2022

Key points:

  • It is important to take care of the relationship that children have with food to achieve good nutrition.
  • Fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates, and proteins are the main components of infant nutrition.
  • You must follow the physician’s instructions for feeding the little ones.

Having a correct diet is very important for everyone’s health, being especially important in children who are in a development and growth stage, so it is necessary to have the nutrients that support their correct medical recovery. Lic. Areli del Carmen Elizalde, executive chef at ABC Medical Center, Santa Fe Campus, offers the following advice for feeding children at home and in the hospital.

Malnutrition is a problem that affects children and adolescents in Mexico in different ways. On the one hand, malnutrition during childhood has negative impacts for the rest of their life, such as short stature and insufficient development of the immune system. On the other hand, overweight and obesity favor the appearance of diseases such as diabetes, circulatory, heart or kidney problems, serious repercussions that affect quality and life expectancy.1

ABC Medical Center has the ABC Kids menu, designed with the following characteristics:

  • A plate full of color.
  • A fun dish.
  • A dish that covers all of the children’s nutritional requirements.

Speaking of children, the attending physician will give the instructions and, depending on each situation, it can be in the form of baby food, chopped food, or its normal presentation.

Both the ABC Kids menu and the food at home must comply with three food groups:

Group 1: Fruits and vegetables

It is recommended that the servings be given in the morning, to provide the required energy for the rest of the day. There is a wide variety of products that you can include such as papaya, peas, watermelon, carrots, grapes, etc.

Group 2: Carbohydrates

The ABC Kids menu is designed to offer children a wide variety of foods such as pizzas and pasta. The important thing is to prevent the portion of carbohydrates from being very large, preventing children from creating a habit of their daily consumption.

Group 3: Proteins

There are proteins such as meat, fish, or chicken. Within the ABC Kids menu, one of the foods most requested by children is Nuggets. However, you have to make sure that these are made with fresh chicken to get the most nutrients.

Regardless of whether the diet is at ABC Medical Center or at home, these foods are easily accessible and you will see how they benefit your child’s health.

And remember, look for their diet to always be balanced, include fruits and vegetables and, mainly, watch that they have a good relationship with food, says Lic. Areli del Carmen.
