We share some tips for working at home in these times of isolation:

  1. Set up a workspace.
    Choose the place where you can do your work without distractions such as noise, people, pets, electronic devices, among others. Choose a ventilated, tidy, quiet, and well-lit place that will help you focus.
  2. That it has the necessary equipment.
    To the extent possible, have everything you need to work, a desk or table, extension cords to connect your computer, tablet, or cell phone, internet connection, etc. You can place typical office items such as notepads, clips, notebooks, and pencils, among others, to set the scene.
  3. Set schedules and stick to them.
    Get up at the same time and get ready. Do not stay in pajamas for any reason because you could be tempted to go back to bed.
    Prepare your workday, set your schedule, including at least two 20-minute breaks, either to eat a snack, go to the bathroom, walk, or just stretch.
  4. Technology, your best ally.
    Make the most of your computer and cell phone, take advantage of programs and apps to plan your day, manage projects and stay in touch with your boss and work team. With virtual tools you can schedule activities, establish priorities, and set alerts that help you respect schedules and commitments.
  5. Manage your time.
    Establish a work schedule with a time of entry, lunch, and exit, as if you were in the office. Avoid starting earlier or continuing later than scheduled.

Manage the activities you will have during the day and choose your goals to deliver your work on time.

  1. Avoid any distractions.
    Delimit your work area and stay away from places where there is continuous movement. Avoid living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms, choose studios or isolated rooms.
  2. Say yes to comfort, but not too much.
    Avoid choosing a place that is too comfortable, working in bed or very soft armchairs can make you drowsy and underperform.
    Choose a comfortable, firm seat that helps you have good posture while you work to keep you awake and focused.
  3. Never mix household chores.
    Focus on your priorities and avoid mixing household tasks with your work, as it could affect your productivity and your delivery times.
    It is advisable to schedule breaks of a few minutes during the day to distract yourself, clear your mind, and renew your energies.
  4. Remember, it’s not a vacation.
    Explain to your family that you are at home to do your job safely, ask them to allow you to work without interruptions.
  5. Stay connected with your work team.
    Inform your immediate boss about your scheduled activities and the progress of your tasks. Also report when you start working, at lunchtime, and at the end of your workday.
  6. Take care of your mental health.
    Try to reduce work stress, use some breathing techniques during your breaks to help you relax.
    Exercise, eat healthy, and sleep well.
    Being physically fit will help your concentration and performance, so take advantage of your free time to exercise at home, stay hydrated, nourish your body, and sleep six to eight hours a day.
