Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses
The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of idiopathic thrombopenic purpura, an autoimmune disease. The Barnes family was so in awe of the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, that they created this international award to thank nurses around the world. In addition to celebrating excellence in nursing.
Centro Médico ABC is proud to partner with the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation to award the DAISY Award to extraordinary nurses.
This award is given annually in collaboration with the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL), recognizes the compassion, patient care, and exceptional treatment that nurses display every day at Centro Médico ABC.
The DAISY Foundation funds nursing research and promotes improvements in nursing care through evidence-based practice projects.

DAISY Award for honorees
Each DAISY Award winner receives a diploma, a pin, and a sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch” . These sculptures are hand carved by artists from the Shona tribe in Zimbabwe.
The winning nurse’s unit staff enjoys a cinnamon roll lunch (Patrick’s favorite) to remind staff members how special and important they are in caring for patients and their families.
Who is eligible?
At Centro Médico ABC, all nurses who live our care values and provide high-quality care through technical skill and exceptional treatment with the patient and family are eligible.
