Key points:

  • A Check-up is a quick and safe preventive clinical examination.

  • Among the Check-up’s benefits is the timely detection of various types of diseases, which if detected early can be treated effectively.

  • It is advisable to have an annual check-up to monitor our health.

What is a medical check-up?

The Check-up or general health test includes all the basic laboratory tests and a doctor’s opinion to broadly know the state of your health and thus be able to timely detect important diseases such as hypertension, cancer, or diabetes, among others.
There are different types of Check-ups depending on certain profiles, for example: for men, women, pregnant women, in climacteric or menopause, people with a tendency to heart problems, thyroid problems, children, adolescents, among others.

Why is it important to have a general medical check-up?

To improve and ensure your quality of life. Sometimes we feel constant discomfort or chronic pain that we associate with stress or something temporary without giving it importance since we make it part of our daily lives.

With it, diseases called “silent killers” can be diagnosed, such as hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, uric acid, heart problems, cancer, and thus be able to take timely action.

What are the Check-Up’s basic tests?

A Check-Up includes a series of clinical tests with which your doctor and you will be able to know your state of health and take actions that avoid or delay the presence of diseases that affect the quality of life in the short, medium, and long term.

The most common tests are:

  • Complete blood count: of elements such as red and white cells, and platelets, helps detect diseases such as leukemia.
  • Comprehensive urinalysis: can detect a health problem related to the urinary system, such as infections, diabetes, poor kidney function, stones, or signs of cancer.
  • Parasite/hidden blood stool test: determines if the cause of the diarrhea is due to parasites, amoebas, or pathogens such as salmonella.
  • Kidney profile/Urea Nitrogen, creatinine, uric acid, total protein, calcium albumin/globulin, glucose: detect kidney disease.
  • Lipid profile/Cholesterol, triglycerides: high cholesterol is the main risk factor in cardiovascular diseases, so this test can detect a possible problem and prevent it.
  • Liver function tests/Bilirubin, total and direct: high bilirubin levels and yellow skin color may indicate a blockage in the liver or liver problem.
  • Thyroid function tests: detect hypothyroidism or probable thyroid cancer.
  • Basic metabolic panel/electrolytes, glucose, urea nitrogen, creatinine: the most common test which helps us reveal possible diabetes.

In our Preventive Medicine department, you will find a Check-Up designed for you according to your age and stage of life, remember that a test can make the difference between life and death, if your discomfort does not stop, take care of yourself immediately.
