Bland diet

9:44 - 12 April , 2022

It is a diet for patients with gastrointestinal diseases who are recovering from surgery or for those who have difficulty chewing and swallowing. It reduces stomach acidity, eliminates all those foods that stimulate gastric secretion, and promotes the patient's well-being. It is based on products that are easy to assimilate, such as liquids, fruits, and vegetables that guarantee minimal effort for the digestive system. It is used in the transition period between the liquid diet, whole or mixed feeding, and normal diet, as well as in inflammatory processes of the digestive system and when there is lipid intolerance. The bland diet includes foods prepared with very little fat and seasoning. Food must be broiled, boiled, baked, or grilled, not fried or breaded. The prescription of this type of diet should always be recommended by a specialist and personalized according to the patient’s needs and diagnoses (rich in fiber, low in residue, without irritants, without dairy products, without fat, without xanthine, without cholecystokinetics, etc.), to adequately balance the vitamins, minerals, proteins, and carbohydrates requirements.
