United improving community well-being

2 February 2022

Key points

  • One more successful year ensuring access to medical services in various communities.
  • Results that place us as a hospital committed to society promoting altruism.
  • High-quality health care for people.

Every year more than 4,000 people receive medical care thanks to the inclusive health programs of ABC Medical Center, especially for people living with chronic diseases, and also performing more than 48 highly specialized procedures.

Heart diseases: United by the hearts of children

In Mexico, one in 120 infants is born with some congenital malformation of the heart, it is also estimated that there are between 18,000 and 20,000 cases of congenital heart disease per year.

At ABC Medical Center we serve families who do not have the financial resources to pay for the treatment with the support of specialists from the ABC-Kardias Pediatric Heart Center who operate and cure the small hearts of newborns.

Their altruistic work offers children in Mexico a better future, contributing to the future of the country and placing us at the level of the best centers of excellence in the world.

Epilepsy: Greater independence for patients with epilepsy

In Mexico City, there are more than 2 million people with epilepsy who have a mortality risk three times higher than the general population, so their quality of life depends on a correct diagnosis and adequate medical treatment.

This disease makes low-income patients and their families even more vulnerable, so we help them regain their self-sufficiency through surgery.

1000 plus 1000: Building bonds

In the world, it is estimated that 43% of children from economically vulnerable communities are at risk of inadequate development due to poverty and social inequity.

Early care in social aspects and equitable access to health ensures development and maximizes the potential of future generations. For this reason, in the 1,000+1,000 program, we focus on increasing parenting skills, monitoring childhood neurodevelopment, and creating healthy habits.

Early childhood: From pregnancy to birth

The WHO recommends adequate prenatal care to reduce perinatal deaths that occur in 8 out of every thousand births. In the care model for low-income women, we contemplate prenatal control consultations and interdisciplinary follow-up with the necessary specialties.

The Prenatal Program for families in vulnerable situations has demonstrated its effectiveness in improving the health of children and their mothers in an innovative interdisciplinary model that offers trust, follow-up, and guarantee of care.

Chronic patients: Helping chronically ill patients live fully

In Mexico, diabetes mellitus is the leading cause of death among women and the second among men (source: National Public Health Institute). At the ABC Community Clinics, we provide care and follow-up to patients with hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.

In addition, we support economically and socially vulnerable patients who have chronic diseases to strengthen their self-care skills in the prevention of complications through health education and multidisciplinary care.

Telemedicine: Telemedicine brings us closer

3,790 patients treated and recovered thanks to remote monitoring.

At ABC Medical Center we have demonstrated in times of crisis our commitment to the community by providing free care to vulnerable patients with COVID-19 through telemedicine during the pandemic.

Community health: Joining efforts to reduce social inequity

More than 3,400 financially vulnerable patients affiliated with our ABC Community Clinics receive preventive health care annually.

We are committed to generating a social impact by improving health in neighboring low-income communities through first-level care clinics, preventive programs, as well as access to highly specialized procedures.

Teachin: Mexico’s future medical talent.

More than 1,820 hours of training for doctors, nurses, and health professionals.

At ABC Medical Center we train health professionals with the best care and research practices, to guarantee quality and safety in patient care.

Medical philanthropy is part of ABC Medical Center’s DNA

More than 150 members of the ABC medical staff altruistically support economically vulnerable patients of our Inclusive Health programs.

  • Thanks to the support of more than 100 ABC doctors, we are able to provide specialized care to patients from marginalized communities.

The voluntary and altruistic participation of medical personnel are the basis for success in caring for disadvantaged communities.

Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic: Smiles for more children

1 out of every 1,000 children in Mexico is born with a cleft lip and palate.

At ABC Medical Center we offer comprehensive medical care and sensitive and empathetic support to children and adolescents from vulnerable communities in any part of Mexico to restore their smiles and reintegrate them into society.

Oncology: Adding efforts every day

70% of childhood and juvenile cancer cases are curable when detected and treated promptly.

Through our Inclusive Health Program, we provide comprehensive and highly specialized care to children with cancer from socially and economically vulnerable communities.
