What it's for:

Diagnosis of a coagulation factor II congenital (rare) deficiency. Assessment of acquired deficiencies associated with liver disease or vitamin K deficiency, oral anticoagulant therapy, and antibody-induced deficiencies (e.g., associated with lupus-like anticoagulants). Determining stabilization of warfarin therapy in patients with nonspecific inhibitors (i.e., lupus anticoagulant). Determination of anticoagulation degree with warfarin to correlate it with S protein level. Extended prothrombin time or activated partial thromboplastin time research.
