THROMBIN TIME

Indications:

4 – 8 hour fast

What it's for:

Detect or exclude the presence of heparin or heparin-like anticoagulants (which act by enhancing antithrombin's inhibition of thrombin and other procoagulant enzymes) when used together with reptilase time (RT) to assess unexplained extended clotting times. Identify the cause of an extended prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, or diluted Russell's viper venom time when used together with RT and fibrinogen assay.
