Our History
Centro Médico ABC is run by a Board of Trustees, it does not have an owner, so it reinvests its financial surplus to serve economically vulnerable communities through disease prevention and high specialty surgery programs to neighboring communities, as well as teaching and research.
1886
On December 12, the American Hospital is inaugurated in Mexico City. Mr. Simón Lara was the first ABC philanthropist to donate a plot of land to build the hospital, an act that motivated the American Benevolent Society to collect donations for its construction.
1923
Thanks to the donation of Mr. Weetman Pearson and the unconditional support of his wife, Mrs. Annie Cass, both from the English community in Mexico, Cowdray Sanatorium opens its doors on Mariano Escobedo Street; it would later be known as the “English Hospital”.
1941
The American Hospital and Cowdray Sanatorium join forces to create the American British Cowdray Hospital, I.A.P., governed since then by a Board of Trustees whose members, belonging to various communities, support the Institution altruistically.
1952
Centro Médico ABC Medical Association is created in response to the need for specialized medical advice.
1953
The Volunteer Ladies Group is created to support various areas of the Institution.
1964
A fundraising campaign is carried out to build the ABC Hospital in Observatorio, with great participation from the Mexican people.
1970
Logo used until that year.
1983
The “Today and Tomorrow” Campaign begins with the objective of obtaining funds for the expansion and modernization of ABC Hospital.
1984

1991
The “Today and Tomorrow” Campaign officially ends, which in seven and a half years reaches the record figure of 20 million dollars (double what was originally planned and in less time) for the ABC Hospital Development Program, today Centro Médico ABC.
1999
Centro Médico ABC obtains certification from the General Health Council (CSG).
2003
Since 2003, ABC is a medical center, offering all medical specialties.
2004
Centro Médico ABC Santa Fe, a hospital unit that complements the services offered at Campus Observatorio, is inaugurated.
2006
ABC signs an affiliation agreement with Methodist International of Houston, Texas, to match its current services with international standards.
2008
The ABC Center for Gynecology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics is inaugurated at Campus Santa Fe.
2008
Centro Médico ABC receives accreditation from the Joint Commission International for its Observatorio and Santa Fe Campuses.
2009
The “Imagine…” Campaign is launched for the construction and equipping of the ABC Cancer Center at Campus Observatorio.
2011
The Neurology, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Centers begin operations at Campus Santa Fe.
2013
Campus Observatorio Hospitalization Tower is named “Jordan-Black” in honor of a great ABC benefactor.
2014
The fundraising campaign for the construction of the “TEC-ABC” Medical School is launched, naming the building in honor of the Espinosa Rugarcía family.
2016
Centro Médico ABC celebrates 130 years of Medical Excellence.
2017
Annie Cass Critical and Surgical Care Tower is inaugurated in Campus Observatorio in 2017.

The American College of Radiology (ACR)
Recognition that ensures the highest level in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed.
Joint Commission International (JCI)
Centro Médico ABC complies with the accreditation standards of the Joint Commission International (JCI) and is the only health institution in the country to achieve accreditation simultaneously for its two campuses on four consecutive occasions.
This recognition confirms that Centro Médico ABC has improved safety in all its processes, both clinical and supportive, so that its patients receive the best possible care.
College of American Pathologists
The Laboratories Division of Centro Médico ABC complies with the standards of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), regarding human resources, equipment, facilities, analytical methodology and information system.
General Health Council
It has the National Certification of Hospitals General Health Council, in its two campuses.
