Interaction of teaching, research and medical care.

We are concerned about maintaining the on-going academic development of our doctors-in-training, aimed at understanding patients and making diagnostic and therapeutic decisions, all of which involve technical skills and knowledge applied through the scientific method, without losing sight of the balance between patient expectations, possible risks and benefits and the cost of the actions to be carried out.

Our Objectives:

- Understand patients.
- Learn about the illness in question.
- Anticipate the interaction of the patient and the illness.
- Determine the changes we may expect with treatment.

Undergraduate Internship

The medical internship is the period when all the theoretical knowledge learned is put into practice, since this is the intern’s first interaction with patients and medical realities.
Students may rotate through the clinical services of internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery or gynecology and obstetrics.
Moreover, this is a period when teamwork is reinforced through multidisciplinary practice.

Postgraduate and Medical Residency

Postgraduate work in our institution seeks medical excellence, so it invests heavily in teaching, research and activities that ensure quality health care.

This benefits students, who achieve a high level of academic development.

The UNAM and the ABC Medical Center Working Together to Train Health Care Professionals

The ABC Medical Center, the National Autonomous University of Mexico’s (UNAM’s) Medical School and the National School of Nursing and Obstetrics (ENEO) have signed an agreement so that both medical school and nursing students can have access to collaborative and high-level training at the UNAM-ABC School of Medicine and Nursing, located at the Amparo Espinoza Rugarcía building at the hospital’s Santa Fe Campus.

The objective of this alliance is for students in both disciplines to take classes together, so that they can learn teamwork starting in the classroom, in addition to complying with ABC’s vision and mission: to transform healthcare in Mexico, by promoting the education of health care professionals.

ABC provides the facilities and professors, and UNAM provides the students and academic program. The students in both bachelor’s degree programs are currently in the third year of the curriculum, which is when clinical practice begins, meaning that they begin their training period in hospitals.
