How to present yourself to a Check Up

Show up with a 12-hour fast for your health assessment, which includes lunch. The nurse will tell you the best time to do it.


  • Wear comfortable clothing.
  • Your must wear a facemask at all times inside ABC Medical Center facilities.
  • Your must perform frequent hand hygiene.
  • Please fast for 10 hours before your appointment. Your Check up includes breakfast; the nurse will tell you the best time to take it.
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours prior to your Check up.
  • Refrain from intense exercise 48 hours prior.
  • On the day of your appointment, you should bring a stool sample (approximately the size of a walnut; this sample can be from the night before, as long as it is kept refrigerated). The urine sample should be no more than two hours old. The containers can be requested at the Department of Preventive Medicine from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at both campuses and on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. only at Campus Santa Fe, or can be purchased at a pharmacy of your choice (please do not use glass containers).
  • Regular bathing. For female patients undergoing mastography, please do not apply talcum powder, cream and/or deodorant in the breast and armpit area. It is very important to bring your previous mastography, if you have it, in order to make a comparative study.


  • Request your appointment through the APP and/or Call Center of the Preventive Medicine Department, as it will be subject to availability.
  • On the day of your appointment, you must be on time for your registration.
  • You must present an official ID (Voter ID Card (INE) or passport).
  • In order to speed up the reception and registration process, we ask you to fill out your forms in ADVANCE through the Preventive Medicine APP.
  • In case you are referred by an insurance company or company, it is INDISPENSABLE to send the Letter of Authorization digitally at least 24 hours before your appointment to
  • The duration of your Check up will depend on the package and your particular needs.
  • In case of not performing any study included in the contracted Check up, it may NOT be discounted from the cost of the same or exchanged for any other study.

At the end of your Check up, the Reception staff will give you a date and time for the results delivery appointment. Do not forget to request it. Results will only be delivered within one to three weeks after your Check up.

For your peace of mind, in the event that any result is reported out of range and requires immediate attention, you will be informed within 72 hours of your Check up.

If you bring a car, at the end of your Check up you will be provided with a courtesy parking voucher, remember to ask for it.

Recommendations for PAP smear test:

  • Avoid the use of vaginal medications (vaginal ovuli, creams, powders, etc.) 72 hours prior to sample collection. If it is not possible to suspend the treatment, we recommend performing your test 3 days after the end of your treatment.
  • A 24-hour period of sexual abstinence is recommended prior to sampling.
  • The best time to schedule your Pap test is at least 5 days after the end of your menstrual period.
  • The test cannot be performed during your menstrual

General Recommendations

  • If you wear glasses or contact lenses, we ask you to bring only frame lenses for the ophthalmologic evaluation. In case you bring contact lenses, for your safety you will not be able to remove them during the evaluation.
  • Please do not ingest any medications you usually take in the morning. Please bring them with you. Notify the Laboratory Staff  when your blood sample is taken if you are routinely taking medications. You will be able to take them once your blood sample is taken.
  • Do not bring jewelry such as bracelets, rings, bangles, chains, etc.
  • Do not bring enameled nails.

Recommendations before your Check up appointment:

  1. Accompanying persons are not allowed.
  2. Not having had contact with any person suspected or confirmed with COVID-19 in the last 15 days.
  3. Keep a distance of 2 meters with any person.
  4. If on the day of your appointment you have respiratory symptoms and/or fever, we ask you to reschedule your appointment.

Methods of payment:

If you have medical expenses insurance from insurance companies that include the payment of the Check up by reimbursement, we can issue a list of the studies comprising it, without mentioning unit prices. The invoice is issued for the item of Check up and the respective price, without being able to modify it.

Payment must be made at the end of your Check up; in case of payment by check, please make it payable to: The American British Cowdray Medical Center, I.A.P. and bring a copy of identification of the person signing it. The check must be dated no later than four days prior to your appointment. Checks marked “new account” or “recently opened account” will not be accepted.
