Research

We are convinced that research is the main tool for the advancement of medicine, so it is fundamental for the institution.

What is Research at Centro Médico ABC?

At Centro Médico we are interested in promoting scientific knowledge through research. We can achieve this through the approval, coordination, implementation and monitoring of the research protocols that are submitted to the Research Committees, Research Ethics Committee and Research Biosafety Committee. Approval and follow-up are performed for both, the research protocols carried out within Centro Médico ABC as well as the protocols carried out in other institutions.

For Centro Médico ABC it is of paramount importance to promote, through teaching, research knowledge, therefore, in the Research area we provide support to the protocols of medical specialties residents, masters and doctorates. In this way we contribute to the growth of adequately trained people in research.
The development of clinical and biomedical research within a medical center strengthens a culture of critical and academic discussion about the relevance and benefit of the application of new interventions and strategies to healthcare work. Centro Médico ABC has the tools and methodologies to support residents, Medical Corps doctors and any health professional to test their hypotheses with an innovative attitude, always seeking the patient’s benefit and following the institutional vision of leadership in health care.

Research

Main Research Lines

We have more than
72
active protocols
(retrospective and
prospective)

Of different specialties, among which are: neurosciences, oncology, pathology, internal medicine, orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery, anesthesiology, cardiovascular, critical medicine, pediatrics, nursing, radiology and imaging, obstetrics and gynecology and general surgery.

Some protocols carried out by our doctors have been presented in international conferences and specialized magazines.

Our main research areas are:

COVID-19 research

COVID-19 Pandemic, caused by a new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, has become a threat to humanity in just a few months, triggering the worst health crisis of this century. There is much that is not yet known about the COVID-19 virus and research is necessary to accelerate the knowledge about the behavior of this disease, as well as the possible treatments to fight it.

Treatment:

  • Protocols related to the coadjuvant treatment of COVID -19 and protocols on the distribution, behavior, and characteristics of the disease in our population and its relationship and incidence with other diseases in various therapeutic areas.

Internal Medicine

  • Coadjuvant treatments and clinical manifestations.

Neurosurgery

  • Neurosurgery safety in times of COVID-19

Oncology

  • Oncology surgery and COVID-19 cohort studies and registry studies

Pediatrics

  • Kawasaki syndrome and COVID

Neurophysiology

  • Neurological manifestations of COVID-19 and clinical manifestations due to the use of protective equipment.

Critical Medicine

  • Artificial respiration, disease progression, among others.

Radiology and Imaging

  • Various computed tomography protocols in COVID-19

Epidemiology in COVID-19

  • In health workers and in the general population.

Basic Research Laboratory

Biomedical research today impacts medicine like never before. Advances in the understanding of the basic structures of cells and their functions in cell physiology have led to a better understanding of the molecular and genetic bases of disorders such as diabetes, cancer, or Alzheimer's. Today we understand disease as the result of the interaction between particular versions of our genes, the environment, and our lifestyle.

Molecular diagnosis is an essential complement in many branches of contemporary medicine. The enormous amount of information generated in molecular studies led to the development of bioinformatics, which together with molecular biology represent essential tools in cutting-edge biomedical research.

Research

Centro Médico ABC began its journey towards the formation of research groups and obtaining the corresponding infrastructure. In order to carry out translational clinical research, the Research Laboratory facilities allow functional studies to be carried out in cancer cells and hematological neoplasms, but also in cells derived from patients with other endocrine, rheumatological or surgical pathologies. These facilities make it possible to think of precision personalized medicine protocols such as stem cell therapy or adoptive immunotherapy.

All these actions aim at the consolidation of support units for clinical and translational research carried out by our residents and members of the Medical Corps.

Scientific Committees

All our committees are
registered with COFEPRIS and CONBIOÉTICA,
as established by law.

Research

Research Committee

Reviews, approves, and monitors the research projects or protocols that are intended to be carried out or are being carried out at Centro Médico ABC.

Research Ethics Committee

It safeguards the dignity, rights, safety, and well-being of all participants in the investigations carried out within Centro Médico ABC, in compliance with the applicable regulations.

Research Biosafety Committee

Issues opinions on biosafety (ionizing and electromagnetic radiation, radioactive isotopes, pathogenic microorganisms, recombinant nucleic acids, and genetic engineering techniques) on the research that is intended to be carried out at Centro Médico ABC.

All our committees are registered with COFEPRIS and CONBIOÉTICA, as established by law. The committees offer the service of opinion and monitoring of research protocols carried out in Centro Médico ABC as well as for investigations carried out in other Institutions.
