Pediatric catheterization or surgery?
At the Pediatric Heart Center, we have a multidisciplinary team of specialists in pediatric cardiology, pediatric cardiovascular surgery, echocardiography, hemodynamics, electrophysiology, intensivist medicine as well as nursing, psychology, social work, and medical care personnel who will be able to help you make decisions to address and solve those worrisome heart disease.
Pediatric cardiac catheterization
The pediatric interventional cardiologist is responsible for the anatomical and functional study of the heart. It uses invasive diagnostic and/or treatment techniques to study the heart. Hemodynamics pays attention to all cardiac and peripheral catheterization procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Diagnostic catheterization
Diagnostic cardiac catheterization is a procedure performed by a team of trained specialists that uses catheters and other flexible tools to navigate through the body’s blood vessels toward the heart. Doctors obtain information about the heart’s structure and its functioning, this complements the accurate diagnosis of a significant number of heart problems. Surgeons and clinical specialists gather this information to develop an individualized plan for your child.
Therapeutic catheterization
Currently, a significant number of heart defects can have a definitive solution through cardiac catheterization. Using flexible catheters and special devices, doctors can open or close holes in the heart, repair valves, and widen narrow arteries outside the heart without open heart surgery safely and effectively. Your doctors will describe in detail the procedure, which is usually short and with recovery usually within the first 24 hours.
