What it's for:

As an initial test to evaluate patients with suspected congenital protein C deficiency, including those with a personal or family history of thrombosis. Detection and confirmation of protein C type I and type II congenital deficiencies. Detect and confirm congenital protein C deficiency in homozygotes. Identification of acquired decreased functional protein C (e.g., due to the effect of oral anticoagulants, vitamin K deficiency, liver disease, intravascular coagulation, and fibrinolysis/disseminated intravascular coagulation).
