SEROLOGY FOR MYASTHENIA GRAVIS

Indications:

The patient must not receive general anesthesia or muscle relaxants in the previous 24 hours. Sample collection is recommended before starting immunosuppressive medication for optimal antibody detection. This test should not be ordered in patients who have recently received radioisotopes, for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes, due to possible interference with the assay. The specific waiting period before sample collection will depend on the isotope administered, the dose administered, and the clearance rate in the individual patient. Samples will be tested for radioactivity before analysis. Radioactive samples received at the laboratory will be stored for 1 week and analyzed if sufficiently decomposed or canceled if radioactivity remains.
