What is the flu?
Influenza, or the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus, which affects the upper respiratory tract. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, and muscle aches. The flu spreads mainly through respiratory droplets and can cause severe complications, especially in vulnerable populations.
Vaccination is especially recommended in the following cases:
- For immunization against influenza viruses types A and B, aimed at those who, due to their age or medical conditions, face a higher risk of complications from the flu.
- Medical personnel and others in close contact with high-risk individuals, including family members.
How often is the flu vaccine administered?
The flu vaccine is administered annually. Each year, health experts review the circulating strains of the influenza virus and adjust the vaccine’s composition to ensure it is effective against the most relevant strains. Therefore, it is recommended to receive the vaccine every flu season to maintain optimal protection.
