Key points:

  • Prenatal control is the key to having a birth without risks or complications.
  • Babies born to mothers without prenatal control are at risk of being born prematurely or with low birth weight or other health complications.

If you are thinking of having a baby, surely you have asked yourself, should I have prenatal control?

The importance of having your prenatal control in order, even if it is a healthy pregnancy, lies in ensuring that it evolves in such a way that both of you are in excellent health, only then can you guarantee that your baby’s arrival takes place in the best possible conditions. Also, in this way you and your gynecologist will have a great source of information on the development of both, which in turn can help you prevent a large number of complications.

Having regular check-up from a very early stage makes it possible to identify patients with a higher obstetric and perinatal risk, as well as contributing to healthy behaviors during pregnancy.

Some studies even suggest that children born to mothers without prenatal care have three times the risk of low birth weight and other conditions. In addition to medical care, prenatal care can often include education, emotional support, and preparation for childbirth.

Prenatal care goals:

  • Closely monitor the fetus growth throughout the pregnancy.
  • Identify signs that may indicate a high-risk pregnancy.
  • Adjust the mother and the fetus nutritional needs throughout pregnancy and after delivery.
  • Design an activities plan according to each stage of the pregnancy that benefits both the mother and the baby, to achieve a painless birth.
  • Reduce the risk of complications such as premature birth.

The first trimester is essential since it is during this stage that important decisions will begin to be made when evaluating the mother’s health in order to achieve the proper development of the baby.

When the second trimester arrives, the care and tests will be aimed towards discovering possible congenital diseases, sex, and general health of the baby in order to rule out or identify possible risk factors.

During the third and last trimester, the main thing will be the overall health of both, emphasizing the pediatric care of the newborn
