It is a procedure whose purpose is to correct the deviated nasal septum or when there is an external or internal alteration of the nose that prevents proper breathing. Although it is not a cosmetic surgery, the nose is modified internally and externally in order to improve nasal ventilation and achieve facial symmetry.
Before the procedure:
- Make sure your hygiene is optimal.
- Wear comfortable clothes, no makeup or jewelry.
- Follow the recommended fasting time.
- Tell your doctor if you are taking any medication.
Surgery lasts approximately two to four hours and is performed under general anesthesia. It is an outpatient procedure, which is why you will be discharged that same day.
Although it is not a painful surgery, you may be uncomfortable breathing through your mouth due to your nose being blocked. You will have bruises under the eyes during the first week, which will disappear applying ice immediately after the surgery and with the intake of anti-inflammatories.
You should rest and keep your head up for several days, as well as avoid touching your nose or removing bandages. It is important that you follow the recommendations to the letter and inform your ABC doctor if you experience severe bleeding.
During the first three months, you should avoid wearing glasses and beware of receiving any blow to the face. Normal sun exposure is not dangerous, although intense tanning is not advisable.
Potential risks:
- Moderate to severe bleeding.
- Infections.
- Transient or permanent respiratory obstruction.
- Decreased olfactory capacity.
- Mild nasal asymmetries.
- Delayed healing.
