What is Chronic pelvic pain in women?

It is a painful manifestation for more than six months in the pelvic area, located between the hip and the navel.

Chronic pelvic pain in women can have multiple causes, including:

  • Ovarian cysts.
  • Fibroids.
  • Irritable bowel syndrome.
  • Interstitial cystitis.
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Pelvic floor muscle tension.
  • Pubic symphysis.
  • Pelvic congestion syndrome.

  • Hernias.
  • Sexually transmitted diseases.

Signs and symptoms Chronic pelvic pain in women

  • Continuous pain in the pelvis.
  • Intermittent pain.
  • Cramps.
  • Stabbing pain.
  • Pelvic tightness.
  • Sensation of heaviness in the pelvis.
  • Painful sexual intercourse.
  • Pain when defecating or urinating.
  • Pain when sitting for a long time.

Diagnosis and treatment Chronic pelvic pain in women

Your gynecologist will analyze your symptoms and clinical history, and then perform a physical and a pelvic examination, in addition to requesting various tests to confirm the diagnosis, such as:

  • Blood tests.
  • Urine test.
  • X-rays.
  • Ultrasound.
  • Computed tomography.
  • MRI.
  • Laparoscopy.

If the direct cause of the condition is found, it will be treated directly, although if the origin is not discovered, the treatment will focus on controlling the symptoms, through:
