What is polycystic ovary syndrome?

It is a common condition in adolescent women or women of reproductive age due to a hormonal imbalance that is characterized by infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods, or excessive levels of male hormones, causing the growth of cysts in the ovaries that prevent the regular release of eggs.

Potential risks:

If it is not cared for correctly and in a timely manner, there is a greater risk of developing conditions that can put the person’s health and quality of life at risk, such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, liver inflammation, miscarriage or premature birth, and cancer, among others.

Signs and symptoms Polycystic ovary syndrome

Acne, clogged pores, or oily skin.
Alopecia.
Weight gain, obesity, or difficulty maintaining a normal weight.
Pelvic pain.
Thickening and darkening of the skin around the neck, armpits, or breasts.
Excess hair on the face, chest, abdomen, or thighs.
Infertility.
Heavy, irregular, or non-existent menstruation.

Diagnosis and treatment Polycystic ovary syndrome
