Also known as liposculpture, it is a procedure that consists of the aspiration of excessive fatty tissue in the abdomen, legs, arms, buttocks, and other parts of the body, to reduce the volume and shape the areas where fat was removed.

Sometimes it is mistaken as a solution against obesity, but it does not really work in that case, it only serves to shape the body by removing excess fat in various areas.

This procedure lasts two hours maximum and, depending on the case, general or local anesthesia is used. A thin tube connected to a device that generates vacuum and absorbs fatty tissue is introduced to the area to be treated. Due to the nature of the intervention, a lot of fluids are extracted along with the fat, so intravenous administration of saline solution is required to replace the lost fluids and rehydrate the patient.

It is essential to stay hospitalized for three day after the procedure to monitor and control possible inflammation and edema, as well as bleeding and pain. A catheter is inserted in the affected areas to drain excess fluid, and compression bandages are placed so that the skin does not loosen. You must wear these bandages for approximately three weeks.

Potential risks:

As in any surgery, there are risks with the application of anesthesia, but there are also potential complications typical of liposuction, such as the formation of edema and seromas, infections, kidney and heart complications, as well as fatty embolisms.

Patients with circulation, heart, or lung problems should not undergo liposuction since they are at high risk of having serious problems.
