Regarding the use of medicines, pharmacists receive continuous training in the preparation and dispensing of medicines in a clean and safe environment that complies with legislation, regulations, and professional practice standards. For example, the guidelines that have been established range from including how preparation areas should be cleaned and when a mask should be worn or a laminar flow cabinet should be used in the preparation of medicines. Medicines stored and dispensed in areas outside of the pharmacy (for example, patient care units) adhere to the same safety and cleanliness measures. Staff who prepare compounded sterile products (such as intravenous and epidural injections) or prepare medications using multidose vials are trained in the principles of medication preparation and aseptic technique. Similarly, laminar flow cabinets are available and used when indicated by professional practice (for example, with chemotherapy drugs).
